Christopher Drew, PhD., AS+GG's Director of Sustainability, is an internationally recognized and awarded Environmental Scientist and Sustainability Manager. He is unique in the architecture profession in that he brings an understanding of the relationships of the built environment with the natural environment and urban ecosystems through almost 20 years working as an environmental specialist with 10 of those years working as a sustainability Manager.
Dr. Drew contributes to AS+GG projects through establishing the sustainable design vision, goals and targets and then working closely with the architecture team and sub-consultants to develop appropriate implementation strategies and design performance monitoring approach. With a focus on holistic sustainable design and resource use minimization strategies, he has supported all of AS+GG most significant projects and helped the firm to win numerous environmental design awards.
Prior to joining AS+GG in 2009, Dr. Drew was the Department Manager for Sustainability at Masdar City, Abu Dhabi, a project which is still considered to be the most sustainable large community development project in the world. He helped develop all aspects of Masdar City’s sustainability strategy, sustainability management systems and key performance indicators for design, construction and operation.
Prior to that he was the environment and sustainability manager for the Abu Dhabi Airport Expansion Program – at the time the largest airport project in the world, where besides developing the Environmental assessment methodology for the project, he oversaw the first successful wildlife translocation project from the construction area to a protected area.
